Bowl Week 2 Picks: A Whales ______.

Bowl Week 2 is here...and that means better games, hopefully. The first week was filled with blow outs and bowl games that nobody watches. However, every week after, more and more viewers tune in until it all culminates with the National Championship...it's science. Speaking of tuning in, tough decision tonight, listen to the Badger basketball game on the radio or watch the Emerald Bowl. I'll go with the former. Go Big Ten! Onto the picks:

My Picks:

1. Central Michigan (-9) vs. Middle Tenn. St.
The fact that Middle Tennessee St. is in a bowl is proof that there are too many bowl games.

2. Florida St. (+3) vs. UCLA
Did you know that Drew Weatherford was Homecoming King?

3. Oklahoma St. (-2) vs. Alabama
For the last time this year…I don’t like John Parker Wilson.

4. Rutgers (-7) vs. Kansas St.
I like Schiano in this one.

5. Cal (-4) vs. Texas A&M
The game is in San Diego, which of course means, a whales _____(left blank for the kids).

6. Clemson (-9.5) vs. Kentucky
This has the potential to be the “lock of the bowl season.” But I’m not saying it.

7. Oregon St. (-3.5) vs. Mizzou
Beavers over Tigers.

8. South Carolina (-6) vs. Houston
What are the odds that Steve Spurrier becomes the next Joe Paterno?

9. Texas Tech (-6.5) vs. Minnesota
I always root for the Big Ten during bowl season, but Minnesota sucks at football this year.

10. Purdue (pick) vs. Maryland
Here’s my Big Ten bias at its best.

11. Boston College (-6) vs. Navy
I vote Doug Flutie as next coach.

12. Iowa (+9) vs. Texas
Big Ten baby.

13. VT (-2.5) vs. Georgia
If you’re bored reading this…search Georgia in Yahoo images…it never gets old.

14. Miami (-3.5) vs. Nevada
Coke over Pepsi. Coker over whoever the hell Nevada’s coach is.

Kevin’s Picks:

1. Central Michigan (-9) vs. Middle Tennessee St.
Ahh yes, the battle of the middle and centrals. Its in Detroit, I’m taking Cent. Michigan.

2. UCLA (-3) vs. Florida State
Where does California get off saying they are a better dairy state than us? Go Bruins!

3. Oklahoma State (-2) vs. Alabama
I told you magenta doesn’t like Tulsa. She doesn’t like Bama either.

4. Rutgers (-7) vs. K State
Schiano finishes a great season out with a bowl win.

5. Cal (-4) vs. Texas A&M
I’ll take Cal even though I once had them as a LOC (lock of the century) and lost earlier. Weird how LOC spells “lock” also. Cool eh?

6. Clemson (-9.5) vs. Kentucky

7. Oregon State (-3.5) vs. Missouri
Oregon State is a bandwagon team. Beaver=slang for _____(left blank for the kids).

8. South Carolina (-6) vs. Houston

9. Minnesota (+6.5) vs. Texas Tech
BIG TEN

10. Maryland (pick) vs. Purdue
Sorry Big Ten but Purdue’s quarterback looks like a garbage patch kid.

11. BC (-6) vs. Navy

12. Iowa (+9) vs. Texas
Colt McCoy.

13. Georgia (+2.5) vs. Va. Tech
Peaches come from a can; they were put there by a man.

14. Nevada (+3.5) vs. Miami

Jim’s Picks:

First off, I hope that everyone enjoyed the holiday week. It's good to see the Brewers add another pitcher to the staff as well. Badger basketball is looking good, let's hope they keep it rolling. Now on to the Bowl Week 2 Picks:

1. Motor City Bowl
Cental Michigan (-9) vs. Middle Tennessee State
Blue Raiders lose.

2. Emerald City Bowl
UCLA (-3) vs. Florida State
Florida State has had one of the worst years they've had since I've watched college football, UCLA beat USC.

3. Independence Bowl
Oklahoma State (-2) vs. Alabama
Did you know that Forrest Gump played for Alabama?

4. Texas Bowl
Rutgers (-7) vs. Kansas State
I heard this game is on NFL Network, for those who get that channel, enjoy the game I'll bet it will be wonderful.

5. Holiday Bowl
Texas A & M (+4) vs. Cal
I tried to like both of these teams for my picks this year, it didn't work well.

6. Music City Bowl
Clemson (-9.5) vs. Kentucky
Clemson I thought was good, they aren't that good, but Kentucky isn't either. I think this might be Kentucky's first bowl game in 250 years.

7. Sun Bowl
Oregon State (-3.5) vs. Missouri
Whatever happened to Ken Simonton?

8. Liberty Bowl
South Carolina (-6) vs. Houston
David Klingler played for Houston, his record just got broken. I still hate Steve Spurrier.

9. Insight Bowl
Texas Tech (-6.5) vs. Minnesota
I still cannot believe that Minnesota made a bowl game.

10. Champs Sports Bowl
Purdue (pick) vs. Maryland
Drew Brees played for Purdue, he is having a good year. Maryland wears Under Armor, they will not protect that house.

11. Meineke Car Care Bowl
Navy (+6) vs. Boston College
Who is coaching the game for BC?

12. Alamo Bowl
Iowa (+9) vs. Texas
If Texas isn't in a BCS bowl, they don't care.

13. Chick-fil-a Peach Bowl
Virginia Tech (-2.5) vs. Georgia
I have never liked the Georgia Bulldogs. Troy Smith is better than Michael Vick used to be, but Smith won't be a number one pick like Vick was.

14. MPC Computers Bowl
Miami (-3.5) vs. Nevada
Miami had a terrible terrible season, but pull one out here in the end. Larry Coker looks like a plantation owner.

Koontz’ Picks:

1. Central Michigan (-9) vs. Middle Tennessee St.
2. UCLA (-3) vs. Florida St.
3. Kentucky (+9.5) vs. Clemson
4. Oregon St (-3.5) vs. Mizzou
5. South Carolina (-6) vs. Houston
6. Purdue (pick) vs. Maryland
7. Minnesota (+6.5) vs. Texas Tech

20-8...not bad

I'll keep this one short since I'll be posting this week's bowl picks tomorrow. But I do have to say that I knew that we would get better once the bowl's hit. We actually went 20-8 this week, which has to be our best week of all time. Let's hope for more of the same this week. Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas, and check back tomorrow.

Standings (as of December 25, 2006)
Me: 27-25
Jim: 26-26
Koontz: 19-23
Kevin: 21-29-2
Mike: 0-5

Where the hell are they now?

I must start off by saying that this post has been inspired by Kevin's latest post "What the hell is that on your face?," and if you haven't read it already, please do so. Now I'm sure that the majority of us have seen shows like VH1's 100 Greatest Teen Stars and E!'s True Hollywood Stories, well this is my very own version of those, a spin-off if you will, which I cleverly named "Where the hell are they now?" If you're anything like me, you have found yourself wondering where your favorite childhood television personalities are in 2006 on many occasions. To end the wonderment and personal anguish, I have compiled a list of 3 tv personalities of the past 22 years (how long I've been alive), who I find myself wondering, "Where the hell are they now?" So without further ado...the countdown from 3 to 1.

3. Bret "The Hitman" Hart
If you're wondering why I chose "The Hitman" over his other nicknames ("The Excellence of Execution" and "The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be"), it's because "The Hitman" fits better and rolls off the tongue. If you aren't sure who Bret Hart is, he was a famous pro wrestler during the 1990's, a major heart-throb, and his signature move "The Sharpshooter" was no laughing matter. He was a Canadian Idol, which is evident by this Bret Hart Commercial...lucky kid.

Where the hell is he now?
Well first off, I found out that Bret was born and now lives in Canada, which must be shitty. Moreover, his life has been filled with tragedy. His brother Owen Hart, who was also a pro wrestler, died after a failed ring stunt in 1999. Then in 2002, Bret himself suffered a stroke after a bicycle accident. The Calgary Herald reported that Hart hit a pothole, flew over the handbars of the bike and landed on the back of his head. Hart suffered partial paralysis after the stroke, which required months of physical therapy. Good news is he has since recovered much of his mobility and is in good health, although he still suffers from an emotional imbalance. Not good times. But not all is bad as he was chosen as one of the Greatest Canadians, coming in at #39 in 2004, got a hockey team named after him (Calgary Hitmen), and was inducted to the WCW Hall of Fame earlier this year. As I said, he currently lives in Canada, writes a column for the Calgary Sun newspaper, and is working on an autobiography which he says "is all but finished...I just need a title." Put that in your book.

2. Andrea Barber
Who the hell is Andrea Barber? Here's a hint: Who was DJ Tanner's best friend in Full House? If you said Kimmy Gibbler, you are correct. Hopefully Bruce Grady reads this because he would be happy to see a Full House character mentioned on my blog after the hours and hours spent watching the show. Also, until doing a little research, I had no idea how to spell Uncle Jesse's last name...it's Katsopolis. I knew how to pronounce it obviously, but if someone wanted me to spell it in say a spelling bee, I would've lost. One more interesting fact before I move on, Kimmy was featured in 112 of 192 episodes of Full House, good stuff. The clip I have of Kimmy is from a Full House episode in which she got drunk: Kimmy Gibbler getting drunk.

Where the hell is she now?
First off I have to say she looks a lot better now than she ever did on Full House. From the looks of it, she is married, has a kid named Tate, and lives in England. She is currently pursuing a Master's degree in women's studies at the University of York, and I could totally see her as a women's studies type person too. Hope that works out for you Kimmy Gibbler.

1. Thomas Wilson
Once again, who the hell is Thomas Wilson? Look at the picture...it's none other than Back to the Future's Biff Tannen. I was a huge Back to the Future fan, but oddly enough, never a Biff Tannen fan. He was a douche in the movies, and I'm not one to judge, but who knows if that's changed now days?

Where the hell is he now?
Thomas Wilson aka Biff Tannen is now a self-proclaimed musical artist, actor, comedian, writer, speaker, and man of faith. Apparently, he's a lot of things to a lot of people. But to me, he will never be Thomas Wilson the comedian, he will remain Biff Tannen the douche from Back to the Future until the day I die. I found a video of him singing the Question Song. Also, be sure to check out his offical website www.tomwilsonusa.com or even make friends with him on Myspace...www.myspace.com/tomwilsonusa.

Before I end this, I have to post something Christmas oriented to keep the holiday spirit alive. Seeing as how my favorite Christmas movie of all time is 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, I went in search of anything pertaining to this fine story. This is what I found...'Twas the Night Before Christmas by Larry the Cable Guy.

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Bowl Week One of Three

College Football Bowl Season has arrived, and it's time to pick some games. Many of you may have thought we were done picking, but you have been sadly misled. Looking at the Bowls and the entire BCS Championship Series, I have realized that sponsorship and advertising have taken over College Football. So before I get to this week's picks, let's take a look at some of this year's Bowl names:

1. San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl - The Rose is the only real flower in football
2. Papa John's.com Bowl - Better ingredients. Better Pizza. Papa John's.
3. Meineke Car Care Bowl - Does George Foreman still do Meineke commercials?
4. Chick-Fil-A Bowl - Not even the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl anymore, sad day
5. MPC Computers Bowl - What the hell is MPC?

Every year there are new names. Hell, even the official name of the Rose Bowl is now The Rose Bowl presented by Citi. But it's good to see the Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl is still around. I do have to say I miss Bowls like the Copper Bowl. I'll never forget Ron Dayne vs. Chris Fuamatu Ma'afala in the 1996 Copper Bowl.

Enough about that, onto the standings and the 7 picks. Enjoy.

Standings after the Regular Season (as of December 19, 2006)
Me: 23-22
Jim: 20-25
Koontz: 14-21
Kevin: 16-27-2
Mike: 0-5

My Picks:
TCU (-13) vs. Northern Illinois
Jeff Ballard smokes pot…enough said.

BYU (-3) vs. Oregon
I wonder who Koontz takes in this game?

Rice (-4.5) vs. Troy
I had fried rice for lunch today, it was tasty.

South Florida (-4.5) vs. East Carolina
I actually rode the South Florida bandwagon for a few games this year, sticking with em.

New Mexico (-3.5) vs. San Jose St.
Home field advantage is the sole reason I’m going with New Mexico

Tulsa (+1) vs. Utah
Kevin says Magenta hates Tulsa, I say Kevin’s full of shit.

Hawaii (-7) vs. Arizona St.
Colt Brennan for heisman.

Kevin's Picks:
TCU (-13) vs. Northern Illinois
TCU gives up only 68 yards rushing per game. If TCU can contain Garret Wolfe, I don’t feel as if No. Illinois has the quarterback play to win this one.

BYU (-3) vs. Oregon
A 9 game win streak meets a 3 game losing streak. I’m going to stick with the hot team and take BYU to win by a touch.

Rice (-4.5) vs. Troy
I still stand firm that rice is for Mexicans. Mexicans don’t play football. However, Troy Freidreichs played football and he sucked. Rice wins it by 30 pts.

South Florida (-4.5) vs. East Carolina
Why is this the Papajohns.com bowl and not simply the Papa Johns Bowl? Well if you may recall, last time I picked East Carolina to win they lost to Rice. This is a no-brainer, South Florida wins with ease.

New Mexico (-3.5) vs. San Jose State
New Mexico is in the New Mexico Bowl, got to take ‘em.

Utah (-1) vs. Tulsa
*Inside tip, Magenta hates Tulsa. Take Utah.

Hawaii (-7) vs. Arizona State
Hawaii is playing in the Hawaii bowl...go figure. Hawaii can light it up and will do so against Arizona State. I see this as high scoring, with Hawaii doing just enough to cover.

Jim's Picks:
I don't know the names of all the bowls, so I am going to make up my own names for them.

The DeKalb Bowl
N. Illinois (+13) vs. TCU
I'm sure this is a terrible pick, just like DeKalb is a terrible city, I hate DeKalb. Actually I just finished typing this and came back to this pick, I'm changing my pick on this game TCU (-13) vs. Northern Illinois. N. Illinois sucks and TCU is good.

The Ty Detmer Bowl
BYU (-3) vs. Oregon
Detmer wills the Cougars to victory with his mind.

I bet nobody actually cares about this Bowl
Rice (-4.5) vs. Troy
Rice vs. Troy, get your tickets now!

The Directional School Bowl
South Florida (-4.5) vs. East Carolina
Go Bulls

The Home Game Bowl Part I
San Jose (+3.5) vs. New Mexico
San Jose wins one on the road

The Boring City Bowl, also known as the I couldn't find a line for this game Bowl
Utah (-1) vs. Tulsa
I couldn't find a line, I don't know the record of either team.

The Home Game Bowl Part II
Hawaii (-7) vs. Arizona State
Colt Brennan breaks records, then gets talked about for Heisman next year before he gets arrested, or hurt, or just blows his season.

There you have it, it's amazing how two weeks off of college football and I'm already full force into college basketball and remember nearly nothing about the season we just had. I hate DeKalb.

Koontz' Picks:
Northern Illinois (+13) vs. TCU
BYU (-3) vs. Oregon
Rice (-4.5) vs. Troy
South Florida (-4.5) vs. East Carolina
San Jose St (+3.5) vs. New Mexico
Utah (-1) vs. Tulsa
Hawaii (-7) vs. Arizona St.

And that's that. Both Jim and Kevin's blog have been updated, be sure to check them out as well.

Magenta: my new favorite color

Well it is 7:08 pm on a normal Thursday evening, and about time to write something new. I have had a few slow weeks due to unforseen circumstances, but I feel as if things will take a turn for the better sooner than later. In fact, Jim and I have been talking about it and both agree that 2007 will be "The Year of Andy." Not exactly sure why, but I have a good feeling about '07 nonetheless.

We all know about "The Year of Jim." And damn did he have a good year. I am awaiting some sort of a blog from him about the events that took place during that fine year. But I know for a fact that Georgia happened that year, and as Jim would say, good times. By the way, go to yahoo images type in Georgia and search, you won't be dissapointed. What a great state.

Just found out that the Madison Sports Hall of Fame named UW-Whitewater its "Area Sportspeople of the Year." How bout that? I saw it on the UWW homepage in the "advantage whitewater" section. This is where Whitewater puts up all the advantages it has over other schools, great selling point. And if you haven't noticed, every time you refresh your browser, a new advantage will come up. Please keep refreshing until you see the one with Art professor Dan McGuire. Can't beat it. Speaking of Whitewater, went to the game last week, and it was a blow-out. But Damn magenta was looking good. I have decided that the early morning hung-over talk amongst friends is the best time of your life, and that I will still be thinking of them when I'm 65 years old. If you and your friends aren't partaking in this ritual, please do. If you haven't heard about my run-in with an old middle school classmate, please ask. Actually, all you really need to know is four words...get away from me. Damn magenta was looking good. The old "rubbing one off" line has been the subject of much debate these past few weeks. I think it does in fact make more sense for women than men...think about it. However, that does not mean men should stop using the line. I dislike dyed blonde hairtips (ie. Lance Bass, Lance Bass's fomer boyfriend, and we all know who else). And finally, damn magenta was looking good.

This week's list...
Favorite TV sitcoms (subject to change at any time):
1. King Of Queens
2. That 70's Show
3. Still Standing
4. Yes, Dear
5. Friends

People might be asking where is "Everybody Loves Raymond" and "Seinfeld?" Answer: Raymond is over done, it's on like every channel now, and I've never really gotten into Seinfeld.

Link of the week:
Since Jim was talking about it in his blog, here's a link to see a live performance of "We Built This City" by Starship.

"I went to Jared"

Sorry to all those who were awaiting my post the past few days, I've been a little busy with the websites and music stuff. Anyways, I definitely have a few random things to rant about. First off, Christmas is right around the corner, and not only does that mean it's Sweater Party time, but it also means that there are a slew of new Christmas commercials on TV. Each year, I have this little thing where I pick my favorite and least favorite commercial, and although there are still 17 days until Christmas, I have already found the winner and loser. I'll start with the loser.

Hands down, it's the Jared commercial. "He went to Jared," yeah that one. I have never heard the same line used in a commerical as many times as this one in this commercial. What's worse is that it is used in several different formats. "He went to Jared?", "He went to Jared.", "He went to Jared!", and of course, "He went to Jared!!!!!!!!!...and many more. And then the clincher...the douche bag at the end looks at the camera and says "I went to Jared." What the hell is that? Who comes up with this? The other guys are getting scolded by their wives for not going to Jared, while the guy that did is praised for doing so. Does this mean that I now feel pressured to go to Jared? No. In fact, I will never go to Jared simply because of this one commercial. Also, why the hell is it called the "Galleria of Jewelry"? Galleria...figures.

Now onto the winner. Without a doubt, it's the Zales commercial. It's the most unrealistic commercial I've seen in a awhile, which is why it's the best. If you haven't seen it, let me explain. It is set inside a mall, and includes two white males walking towards eachother. I'm under the impression that they do not know eachother, but the fact that a high five is exchanged makes me think otherwise, or else why the high five? The reason for the high five is because they both went to Zales and picked up some jewelry for their wives/partners (I only say partners because you never know these days). The best part is that they both have this shit grin on their face like they actually enjoyed their shopping experience. A shit grin like the one in the commercial is usually reserved for after banging your wife, not after buying jewelry for your wife, but since jewelry often leads to banging and the two are directly related, the shit grin is appropriate and is a great use of foreshadowing. So now you ask yourself: How often do you see two guys in a mall exchanging high fives while both carrying a Zales bag? The answer: never. Knowing that this event never actually takes place in real life makes me laugh everytime. Combine this with the foreshadowing, and you have the winner.

Before I end this one, I want to say thanks to everyone who came out last night to watch us play. Also, we have a Christmas show coming up on Dec. 22nd. It's up in Madison at the Klinic on Park St. next to the one and only Rustic Tavern. Bring your friends.

73-100-2

Well, bowl season can't come soon enough as it will bring an end to this awful thing. We went a combined 10-10 this week, and finished the regular season 73-100-2. I'm not quite sure how we are going to work the bowl schedule with our picks, so if you have any suggestions, please let them be known.

I have plenty of more things to say that are non-football related, but I will save them for tomorrow's post. Also, if there is anyone that reads this other than us four, check out Jim's blog as well as Kevin's blog. I wonder when Koontz will start one? Anyways, the standings are below, and check back tomorrow.

Standings after week 9 (as of December 4, 2006)
Me: 23-22
Jim: 20-25
Koontz: 14-21
Kevin: 16-27-2
Mike: 0-5
