NCAA Football Picks

For all of you who place bets on college football, here are a couple of games I think you should take this weekend:

1. BYU (-110) at TCU -5.5 (-110)
This is a no brainer. You have to believe that TCU will cover the 5.5. They are undefeated, ranked 17th in the country, and the game is at TCU. Also, TCU's quarterback is 11-0 since taking over as a starter last season. BYU is 2-2 and are a decent team, but no match for the Horned Frogs. TCU by 14.

2. Tennessee -13 (-110) at Memphis (-110)
Take Tennessee to cover the 13 points. Although they haven't looked great this year, the Vols will have no trouble with Memphis. The Memphis defense is horrible, in fact, the team fired its defensive coordinator earlier this week. That isn't a good sign for this weekend. Tennessee by 21.

3. Boise St. +4 (-110) at Utah (-110)
Utah favored by 4 points. However, Boise St. is 4-0 and ranked 22nd in the country. Utah is 3-1 but have played absolutely nobody this year. Boise St. has no defense but their offense is nearly unstoppable. I say this game goes back and forth, and comes down to the end and field goal kicking, and Boise has the better kicker. Boise St. by 3.

4. Michigan -10 (-110) at Minnesota (-110)
Michigan looked good on both sides of the ball last week, and will look good again against Minnesota. Michigan is far too physical for the Gophers, and will take over the game in the second half. Michigan by 17.

5. Rule of thumb...whoever is playing against Temple, take whoever it is no matter the line. In this case it is Vanderbilt, who is favored by 34 at home. Close call this week, actually a really tough call, but I have to go with history and the rule of thumb and take Vanderbilt by 42.

That's what I got for my top 5 picks this week. There are many more games I would pick, and perhaps I will do a top 10 next weekend. But for now, it is what it is.

Last week of baseball...my picks

The regular season is coming to an end, and since every other division is pretty much decided (both the Tigers and Twins make it...who cares which wins the division), I'm left with picking who will win the NL Central, NL West, and NL Wildcard. I will start with the NL Central.

NL Central: St. Louis or Houston?
My bold pick to win the NL Central...the Houston Astros. They currently sit 2.5 games behind the Cardinals in the NL Central as of today (Monday). However, they have won 6 in a row while the Cards have lost 6 in a row. The Astros have 3 games left at Pittsburgh (which should be a sweep), and then finish the season with 3 in Atlanta (who has nothing left to play for). I realize that all 6 are on the road, but all six are winnable. And if anyone has the pitching staff and veteran leadership to win on the road, it's Houston. On the other hand, the Cardinals finish of with a 7 game homestand, which makes it seem like they have the advantage. However, they have 2 this week against the Padres who are fighting for a playoff spot, and finish off the season with a 4 game set against THE Milwaukee Brewers and a make-up game against the Giants. My prediction...The Astros go 5-1 in their final 6 while the Cards go 3-4 in their final 7. That would mean both would finish at 83-79 and force a one game playoff which would be held in Houston because they won last week's coin toss. The Cardinals are on a slide and backing into the playoffs which is never good. This may be wishful thinking...but it's possible.

NL West: Los Angeles or San Diego?
I'm going the hot team here as well...the San Diego Padres who currently have a 2 game lead over the Dodgers. The Padres have won 5 in a row and 16 of their last 22. The Dodgers on the other hand are playing .500 baseball down the stretch. Much like the Astros, the Padres finish the regular season with 6 on the road, 2 more in St. Louis and 4 in Arizona. The Dodgers finish off with 6 on the road as well, 3 in Colorado and 3 in San Fran. I don't see them making up 2 games on the Padres in the next six. My prediction...the Padres go 4-2 and finish 88-74 while the Dodgers go 4-2 and finish 86-76.

NL Wildcard: Los Angeles or Philadelphia?
This one comes down to the aforementioned Dodgers and the Philadelphia Phillies. The two are currently tied in the wild card standings at 82-74. As I said before, the Dodgers will go 4-2 down the stretch and finish 86-76. The Phillies play their last 6 on the road, 3 at Washington and 3 at Florida. My prediction...the Phillies also go 4-2 in the final 6 and finish tied with the Dodgers for the wild card. A one game playoff would decide it, and I'm going with the Phillies.

Now for a recap. I have the Astros winning the NL Central, the Padres winning the NL West, and the Phillies winning the NL Wildcard. That means both the Cardinals and Dodgers miss the playoffs. Let the games begin!

Stunt Compilation

Found a nice video on YouTube today on a bunch of stunts that went wrong. As bad as it is to say, it's kinda funny watching idiotic people get hurt doing idiotic things. Hey how are ya...Jay Cutler here.

For all of you who don't know who the amazing Jay Cutler is, you are about to find out. But for all of you that know me, which I'm guessing is the majority of people reading this, you've probably heard me say the name once or twice. That said, here's a brief Jay Cutler bio for you followed by a great article:
-Hails from Santa Claus, Indiana, where Christmas season is the real deal. In fact, every Christmas his family participates in a spectacular holiday light show that draws viewers from surrounding states.
-Worked with mentally-challenged children through Vanderbilt "Best Buddies" program...broke a "Best Buddy" record for helping the most kids in a season.
-Broke almost all of Heritage Hill High School's passing and total offense records.
-Was First Team All-State in basketball, averaging 21.0 ppg in his final varsity season...Also was honorable-mention All-State shortstop on baseball team, hitting over .400 as a senior.
-Member of National Honor Society.
-He threw for 21 touchdowns in his senior season at Vandy with only 9 interceptions and became arguably the best quarterback in Vanderbilt history.
-Broke numerous records at Vanderbilt, several of which cannot be found in the Vanderbilt record books.
-11th overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos.
-Has already broke records in the NFL without taking a snap.

Chad Johnson Interview #1

This is an interview with Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson after the game against the Cleveland Browns last weekend. He got knocked out in the game and you can see the effects of that after the game in this interview. Although a lot of what he says doesn't make sense, this one really doesn't. See for yourself. Also, I will try to post as many Chad Johnson interviews as possible throughout the season, so check back.

Toyota Commercial

Check out this car commercial my girlfriend found on YouTube. Apparently, Toyota was actually going to air this for one of their new car models, but the FCC decided against it. Turn up the volume on your computer and watch closely to what is happening inside the car, and you'll see why they couldn't put it on TV. It's absolutely hilarious. Make sure you watch it very closely and crank up your volume or you won't be able to see or hear it. Enjoy!

State Resident Nicknames

My buddy Ryan and I were coming back from the Dells today and somehow had a discussion about state resident nicknames. I said something about San Diego and San Diegans (Anchorman of course), and that turned into us attempting to list off as many state resident nicknames as possible (we were bored). It is a lot more difficult than you would think though. Obviously, a resident of Wisconsin is a Wisconsinite and a resident of New York is a New Yorker...those are two of the easiest. But some of the nicknames are just ridiculous and impossible to get. For example Vermont (Vermonter), Connecticut (Connecticuter or Nutmegger), Massachusetts (Bay Stater), and of course New Mexico (New Mexican) are just a few of the ones that I was not aware of. I figured that people from New Mexico called themselves New Mexicans, but it's just weird to me. Would you really want to call yourself a New Mexican? Anyways, I found the list of state resident nicknames for all 50 states. I don't know if they are official or not, but they look legitimate to me. Check them out here. Laura Quinn

I am well aware that most of you have no clue who Laura Quinn is, and I'm guessing that most you don't really care, but I am going to tell you anyways. Laura Quinn is the sister of Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn and girlfriend/fiance (not real sure) of Green Bay and former Ohio St. linebacker A.J. Hawk. I am sure that most of you reading this one are sports fans and have had the distinct pleasure of witnessing last year's Fiesta Bowl between Notre Dame and Ohio St., as well as the interviews that took place during the game and that all too familiar half and half jersey Laura was sporting.



Without giving anymore away, I found an article on this topic while surfing the net today. After reading the article and laughing for a good couple of minutes, I began asking myself:

1. What if the Packers finish with the worst record in the NFL and get the #1 pick in the 2007 NFL Draft? Do they dare select Brady Quinn (consensus #1 pick thus far) with that first pick and force loyal Packer fans to deal with the media frenzy and countless number of in-game interviews that are sure to ensue?
Answer: HELL NO! As good as Brady Quinn is, I couldn't handle a year's worth of what we saw in the Fiesta Bowl. Besides, we have Aaron Rodgers and his pre-season porn stache waiting in the wings.

2. If they did get the #1 pick and used it to select Brady Quinn, what would be the over/under on the number of times Laura would be shown per game (interviews not included)?
Answer: Well after the sample we received while watching the Fiesta Bowl, albeit a small sample, I would say 7...and take the over every game.

3. How would Laura do the half and half jersey thing?
Answer: They would both be on the same team, therefore making the half and half jersey thing irrelevant. I suppose she could do half green and half white and use half of each of their numbers, but that's too much to think about right now. The real question is who's jersey would she wear if she had to choose one? I'm going with A.J.

Well...here it is...my first post. I hope that all of you who read my future posts will thoroughly enjoy them as much as I do posting them. To all those who are wondering why I created this blog, I did so because I wanted to find a quick and easy way to share articles, videos, pictures, etc. that I think the rest of you should see. Some of them you will find hilarious, some probably not so much, you can obviously be the judge of that one. For the most part, I am not going to tell you about how my day went or what mood I am in, I am simply going to post funny $hit about sports, celebrities, and the like.
